Background
Portmarnock Tennis Club has been in existence since 1983 and over the years, we have experienced exceptional growth, fostering a keen sense of community. Now, over 40 years on, we are continuing to grow and develop. Our growth, driven by the passion of our members and volunteers, fuels our commitment to making tennis accessible to everyone, regardless of age or background. We are dedicated to promoting both physical and mental well-being through the sport we love.
Development Plan
As part of our commitment to the ongoing development of our club’s coaching resources and the enhancement of its tennis programmes, our Head Coach will lead the development and implementation of the following initiatives within the club:
- New Members’ Integration
- Young Leaders’ Programme
- Portmarnock Tennis Open 2026
The above initiatives will serve multiple player groups within the club and contribute to the broader strategic goals of the club’s tennis development programme of tennis groups, to maximise participation and development opportunities.
New Members’ Integration
As an ever-expanding community, we want our new members to feel a sense of belonging as quickly as possible. Our new club website is a very handy first point of contact for new members, with plenty of detailed information re joining, facilities, explanation of platforms, terms and conditions etc. Once members join, we have a New Member Whatsapp group, allowing members to initially make contacts but our New Members’ Integration initiative aims to further their integration into the club through Social Mixers; Introduction to Club Tennis Programmes; Drop-In Nights; Adult Tennis Ladders or Box Leagues and Meet the Coaches Coffee Mornings or Evenings.
Young Leaders’ Programme
The Young Leaders’ Programme offers an exciting opportunity for our club to develop its own future coaches, strengthen our community ties and provide positive leadership experiences for young members. The main objectives of the programme are to reintroduce and retain 3rd, 4th and 5th year students in coaching roles and provide them with structured opportunities to develop leadership and coaching skills. This in turn will create a sustainable pipeline of qualified, club-trained coaches. Our pilot project has been very successful, following one student’s completion of the programme and his enrolment to complete Level One Tennis Ireland Coaching Badge.
Portmarnock Tennis Open 2026
Many of our own members regularly participate in Opens organised by other clubs in the Dublin area. As part of our initiative to widen our profile within the tennis community, we are actively preparing the early stages to host a Portmarnock Tennis Open between the 19th and 24th May 2026. We look forward to attracting new tennis players, showcasing our club and facilities and providing our members with the opportunity to view and participate in competitive and exciting matches.
